Family takes first steps to reducing its carbon footprint

The Harwood family approached MEA for advice on saving energy in their home. An audit identified many opportunities for saving energy and carbon including to replace 28 inefficient lamps, replace old appliances, turn off standby, relace the boiler, increase insulation in the roof from 75mm and insulate cavity walls. The Action Plan was quickly returned.

MEA was lucky to obtain sponsorship from the local authority Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council to finance the insulation of the roof and walls. This was completed in October 2007. The family is now working with MEA to replace their inefficient lamps.

Insulation of the walls and roof will save an estimated 750kg CO2 and £190 in energy bills every year.
