Café Climat discusses the benefits of simple energy saving measures
Every three months, the Montpellier Local Energy Agency organises a ‘Café Climat’ in a well-known pub in Montpellier city centre. This is a chance for the public to discuss climate change issues. The session on the 1st April explored the topic ‘How to save money at home with simple and low cost measures?’. For this session, the Montpellier Energy Agency has invited the Eco n’ Home coordinator, the technical adviser of GEFOSAT, and an Eco n’ Home participant, M. Guinans.
Before involvement with the Eco n’Home project, M. Guinans had big ambitions for his home; he wanted to install photovoltaic panels on his roof. However, the Eco n’Home audit highlighted to M. Guinans, the poor energy efficiency in his house; a number of appliances were left on standby, there were no low energy light bulbs, etc. Participating in Eco n’Home gave M. Guinans the opportunity to radically change his behaviour by increasing the energy efficiency of his house.
M. Guinans shared his experiences of energy efficiency at the Café Climat with around 50 people. GEFOSAT staff could also illustrate a lot of good practices with examples observed from the Eco n’Home project. The crowd of 50, who did not have the chance of involvement in Eco n’Home were enlightened to the huge savings which can be made through simple energy saving measures and behavioural steps.
