Project Case Studies
A Dramatic Reduction in Energy Bills!
One householder in Leicester was motivated to join the Eco n'Home project due to concern over their fuel bills; a concern increasingly shared by many. An initial audit undertook by LEA illustrated a number of areas which could be improved to reduce the energy consumption; a new condensing boiler together with an appropriate set of heating controls, along with top-up loft insulation were high on the priority list. Fortunately, LEA were able to obtain a 75% grant from Leicester’s SRB6 grant scheme on behalf of the householder, making all of these measures affordable. These measures, along with six low energy light bulbs, have now all been installed and already the householder has seen a reduction in energy consumption of over 30%! This means a dramatic reduction for fuel costs, even when taking into account the recent energy price rises.
Through participation in this project, the householder has been made more aware of energy saving measures and has thus altered behavioural practices accordingly. The householder now switches off lights when not in use and changes incandescent bulbs for low energy bulbs. They have also made a conscious effort to reduce their car usage; cutting it by an estimated 10%.
