Controlling a heating system correctly can make a big difference
Despite living in a newly built house, one householder in Mèze, France, found his gas consumption was surprisingly high- he therefore decided to participate in the Eco n’Home project. A technical adviser from Gefosat carried out an energy audit of the house and immediately noticed that some rooms were being heated to a constant temperature day and night. By simply showing the householder how to correctly operate the central heating programmer; this problem was soon solved, making significant savings in the household gas consumption. After receiving further advice, the householder has also installed loft insulation. For only €500 (cost of insulation) the householder is saving €150 a year. This equates to 745kg of CO2 annually and a total saving of 15% of total energy consumption.
