Project Case Studies

Taking responsibility towards the environment.

Few people met through the Eco n'Home experience are sensible of environmental questions. The owners of a house located in Montreuil, east of Paris are one of those people. Their house which they began to own two years ago was built in 1950 and is being renovated. It is a two-storeys-house of 110 m2.

When the renovation project started they made contact with the local energy agency MVE and they naturally decided to take part in the Eco n’Home project

Their first engagement was to retrofit the house with a condensing new boiler. Once this was finished the owners did themselves the heat insulation of the piping running through non-heated rooms. The result has been to save 7000 kWh the first year compared to an initial consumption of 20 000 kWh equivalent to 35% of energy saved for both space heating and domestic hot water. This change was combined with the installation of a regulation system in order to control better the temperature and therefore minimize the energy consumed daily.
Their second engagement was to change the single-glazed windows, which were inherited from the former owners. They are currently in the process of installing efficient double-glazed windows everywhere in the house which is intended to be combined with a natural ventilation system.

This household is willing to go further in the process as they are thinking about both roof and wall insulation which might result in a 30 to 35% cut in energy consumption.
The role of MVE is to remain at their disposal through sustained energy advice all along the follow up period.
