The First Results of Eco n'Home are Produced
A preliminary evaluation of the Eco n'Home experimentation has now been produced. This evaluates the results from those householders whose participation in the project has now finished; as this is only a proportion of the total sample it must be stressed that this might not be representative of the total sample and indeed may not be an accurate picture of the final results.
The preliminary results produced so far suggest that the targets set for reductions in energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions have been met. On average, each household has made a 17% reduction in their total energy consumption; the target for this reduction was 10-20% per household. These reductions have also led, on average, to a reduction in carbon dioxide of 2 tonnes. The target for this was 1 tonne.
The evaluation also suggests that the majority of participant householders have changed their behavioural habits since joining the project. For example, this might be turning electrical appliances off instead of using the standby mode.
Further details of the first evaluation will be published soon under the 'Results' section of this website. The Global Evaluation Report will be produced after all households have finished their participation on the project and this should be expected in Summer 2008.
