AGENEAL, the Local Energy Agency of Almada, is a private, non-profit association. It was created in March 1999 with support from the SAVE Programme and the Municipality of Almada.
AGENEAL works with fifteen partners at a local and national level. The area of influence includes the Municipal District of Almada, corresponding to an area of 70,2 Km2, with some 160 825 inhabitants. Almada is located in the south bank of the Tagus River, close to the city of Lisbon.
AGENEAL ensures that Almada participates in the European net Energie-Cités. The Agency is also member of the ECEEE – European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy and of APVE –Portuguese Association of the Electric Vehicle.
The agency's main areas of activity include not only energy efficiency in buildings, but also the implementation of renewable energy systems, sustainable urban planning, sustainable mobility and energy efficiency in transports and other energy efficiency in public equipment (e.g. street lighting, traffic lighting). The type of activity developed is suited to the objectives pursued by each project, which might be consultancy, awareness campaigns, advice on decision making, lobbying, or partnership in pilot projects.
The main goal of AGENEAL is the implementation of a sustainable energy policy in Almada, acting at a local level to improve energy efficiency in all sectors, to increase the market penetration of renewable energy sources, thereby to reduce dependence on environmentally damaging fossil fuels.
AGENEAL’s role in Eco n´Home:
- The implementation of the Eco n’ Home service in at least 100 households in the Municipality of Almada
- The design of the framework for the evaluation of the service
- To determine the success of the project against its objectives be a quantitative evaluation of different parameters
- To translate the efficient energy service (Eco n’ Home) into “white certificates” or “efficient energy certificates” |
