Results for the Eco n'Home project have been compiled in a Global Evaluation Report which is available for download below.
The report outlines the savings achieved in households by experimental area and per energy category (i.e. heating, electricity). There is an in-depth analysis of which methdologies were most successful, which recommendations were most likely to be implemented and other factors which affected these results. In addition, there is analysis in relation to the cost-effectiveness of the project and satisfaction of participants.
The following provides a very brief overview of the results. For fuller explanations and more in-depth analysis, please see the Global Evaluation Report.
-Taking only into account those households that participated in the project until completion, an average reduction of 9% in energy consumption was measured at the end of the follow up year.
-When taking into account the effect of measures implemented towards the end of the follow-up year, an average saving of 11% in energy consumption was predicted.
-This corresponds to an average reduction of 1.0 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per household.
-Of the technical measures recommended to households, 60% were agreed to on the action plan and 30% were implemented (which means half of those agreed to on the action plan were implemented). Many participants had intentions to implement further actions after the end of the project.
-Measures in electricity and heating systems were most likely to be implemented.
-Measures relating to heating systems contributed 54% of the energy savings that were realised. This was followed by a 23% contribution from building measures and 11% from transport measures.
Participants were asked to complete a short questionnaire at the end of the project. Of those who replied:
- 88% felt their knowledge in relation to energy and in particular how to reduce energy in the home had increased since participating in the project
- 71% felt their behaviour in relation to energy use had changed
- 63% regarded the service as good or very good
